2013 in review

The WordPress.com stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The Louvre Museum has 8.5 million visitors per year. This blog was viewed about 180,000 times in 2013. If it were an exhibit at the Louvre Museum, it would take about 8 days for that many people to see it.

Michael Schumacher, the retired seven-time Formula One champion is in a critical condition Monday after undergoing brain surgery following a skiing accident in the French Alps.

In a brief statement, the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire hospital in the southeastern French city of Grenoble said that Michael Schumacher is “suffering a serious brain trauma with coma on his arrival, which required an immediate neurosurgical operation” and that, “he remains in a critical condition.”

It was reported that he was skiing in the Meribel resort with his 14 year old son when he fell and his head hit a rock.

He was first airlifted to a local hospital but an hour later he was rushed to the better-equipped Grenoble facility.

A surgeon and brain specialist from Paris was rushed in to oversee his treatment.

Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.

I am very sad about Michael Schumacher’s condition and hope that he will recover very soon.

2013, A Remarkable Year In Animal Kingdom

Until this year who would have thought that frogs use umbrellas and have an appetite for space travel?

And little did we know at the beginning of the year that during the course of 2013 we would meet not only a caterpillar who looked remarkably like Donald Trump but also establish the fact that shrimps can ably carry out delicate dental procedures.

Yes, 2013 truly was a remarkable year in the animal kingdom.

Has The Selangor MB Forgotten His 10 ‘Aku Janji’?

Malaysian Insider - Sultan Selangor gesa Herald Bible Melayu henti guna kalimah Allah
Malaysian Insider, Nov 14, 2013.

In the above article, Malaysian Insider reported that the Sultan of Selangor told the Herald and Malay Bible to stop using the word Allah as the translation of the word god.

NST reported that the Sultan of Selangor said:

“This is because ‘Kalimah Allah’ for the Muslims refers to the ‘One God’, prescribed in the Surah Al-Ikhlas (in the Al-Quran).
The people of Selangor, especially, must respect and adhere to the ‘muzakarah’ (decision) made by the National Fatwa Committee, Selangor Fatwa Committee, laws as well as the unanimous decision made by the Court of Appeal in the case involving the Home Minister and eight others versus the Titular Roman Catholic Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur on Oct 14, 2013.”

On October 14, 2013, the Court of Appeal ruled unanimously against allowing the Catholic Church to use the word “Allah” in its weekly publication the Herald; Justice Datuk Seri Mohamed Apandi Ali said:

“It is our common finding that the usage of the name ‘Allah’ is not an integral part of the faith and practice of Christianity. From such finding, we find no reason why the respondent is so adamant to use the name ‘Allah’ in their weekly publication. Such usage, if allowed, will inevitably cause confusion within the community.”

What he said is true for Allah is not the name of Christian god and the translation of the word god to the Malay language is tuhan and not Allah; in fact a lot of Christians outside of Malaysia think that it is wrong to call Christian god as Allah.

But some Christians in Selangor do not respect the Sultan’s decree and the ruling made by the Court of Appeal and still want to call their god Allah.

Malaysian Insider - Kami akan terus guna kalimah Allah di gereja Selangor, kata paderi|Dec 27 2013
Malaysian Insider, Dec 27, 2013.

We must understand that as the head of state of Selangor, the Sultan of Selangor is also Selangor’s head of the religion of Islam; so it is the Sultan’s duty to protect Islam; and the Sultan has the rights to do so according the Federal Constitution of Malaysia.

And Article 11(4) of the Federal Constitution gives the Sultan Selangor the rights to control or restrict the propagation of any religious doctrine or belief among persons professing the religion of Islam in Selangor.

So to the Christians in Selangor, please respect the Sultan of Selangor as he is our head of state and please respect the laws of Malaysia.

I really hope Selangor’s Menteri Besar has not forgotten the 10 undertakings that he pledged to the Sultan of Selangor on May 14, 2013.

On December 25, 2013, about 60 people were attacked by piranhas in the Parana River, off the coast of Rosario, about 310 kilometers (200 miles) north of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

It was said that there are lots of piranhas in the river.

Lifeguards director Federico Cornier said that the bathers might had been bitten by a type of piranha named palometa.

Palometa is big, voracious and with sharp teeth that can really bite.

Health Undersecretary Gabriela Quintanilla told reporters that a girl lost part of a finger in the incident.

A medical official, Gustavo Centurion, said the attack which began at mid-morning was “very aggressive.”

“There were some people that the fish literally had torn bits of flesh from,” he said.

Officials said the unusually warm weather also was apparently responsible for the fish congregating on the river’s surface before the attack.

Baneet Wants To Eat

There was a tall man whose name is Baneet.

He looked around, wondering what to eat.

He opened the fridge but there’s nothing he could see.

He walked around the garden but saw only a bee.

He thought, “What should I have for dinner?”

“Hmm… maybe I should ask my friend, Finner.”

He walked along the street and saw a lot of apples.

There was an apple stall and there’s even a tree called Grapple.

Grapple was a huge apple tree, with lots of big, red apples.

But as he walked nearer, he could not see any ripe apple.

“What happened?” asked the hungry, confused Baneet.

Then out of nowhere, he saw a very huge plate of meat.

Only then did he realise that he was actually dreaming.

He laughed and laughed, before he was screaming.

He was lying on his hammock and was almost falling.

He looked around, wondering if he was still dreaming…

My Special Pet Bird

A very special contest,
Is to be held today,
During the apple fest,
Which started yesterday.

I need to do this,
And I had to do that,
I ate a piece of cheese,
That I kept in my pocket.

Next I was asked to draw,
Then I was told to paint,
So I drew a very big claw,
And I painted something quaint.

The prize is a golden vest,
And on it is a special crest,
Guess who won the contest?
It’s my pet bird in it’s nest!

It made such a great work of art,
That made the judges very proud,
My pet bird drew a cute little cart,
And painted a fluffy, cottony cloud!

I gave it it’s favorite bird food,
As a prize for winning the contest,
Then I gave it a little velvet hood,
Before I put it back in its cozy nest.

I still get the vest, by the way,
For the special little bird is mine,
And the bird can’t wear it anyway,
But the vest fits me just fine.

I was so proud of my cute little bird,
For winning such a special contest,
My surprised friends can’t say a word,
But we agree that the bird is the best!

Thousands of Fish Washed To Beach In Tabisan, Lahad Datu – Photos,Videos

Thousands of Tamban fish washed to the beach of Tabisan in Lahad Datu, giving the villagers a chance to catch the fishes with their hands.

This phenomenon makes some people feel as if it is a sign that something bad will happen.

Though such an incident is usually seen as a sign of a possible tsunami, the Meteorological Department said no seismic activity has been recorded off the coast of Lahad Datu.

A local villager Suzila Abdullah, who operates a sundry shop in the village, said that the phenomenon had been occurring in the past three years, but it is different this year because the number of fishes are exceptionally high.

Abby Abadi Protest Against COMANGO?

Looking at the picture above, you could see that the protesters are Muslim Pakatan Rakyat’s supporters.

I can see the word ‘BANTAH’ or object on the posters but it is interesting that I can’t see any poster that reads, ‘BANTAH COMANGO’.

(Please click here to learn more about COMANGO)

As Muslims, they should first protest against some of COMANGO’s demands instead of electricity tariff and other issues as written on their posters.

The lady pointed by the two red arrows, is someone who PAS supporters regard as ‘ustazah’.

She should fight for Islam and hold a poster written, ‘BANTAH COMANGO’ because she claims that she is fighting for Islam.

Or is money more important to them than akidah issues?

And PAS should had organised a big protest against COMANGO if they really care about protecting Islam; but instead PAS leaders join hands with COMANGO leaders and activist to organise protests and demonstrations about other issues other than fighting for Islam.

And PAS or Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party accuse others but their members and allies as un-Islamic.

How sad …
