My Great Grand Father Passed Away

On Thursday, June 14, 2012 at about 5pm, my mother’s cousin called my mother saying that my Appa (my great grand father) is in the hospital.

My great grand father’s name was Mohd. Ya’acob bin Abdullah and his Chinese name was Tung Foo Piew.

He is my mother’s grandfather.

My father planned to go to Kuala Terengganu the next day to visit Appa at the Kuala Terengganu Specialist Hospital (KTS).

But after about half an hour later, my mother’s cousin called my mother again to tell that Appa had just passed away.

I was very sad when I heard the news.

Appa was a very nice man and he was still strong and active despite he was very old.

So we went to Kuala Terengganu that night after Maghrib and we reached Appa’s house at about 1:30am on June 15, 2012.

Appa was buried at the Perkuburan Tok Pelam at about 10am.

Solat Tarawih

Now is Ramadan; the Muslim’s holy month.

During Ramadan we fast, perform the solat Tarawih and read the Quran.

We perform the solat Tarawih only in Ramadan.

When we do the solat Tarawih, we will get lots of extra rewards from Allah.

But first we need to pray our daily solats:

  1. Subuh 2 raka’ats

  2. Zohor 4 raka’ats

  3. Asar 4 raka’ats

  4. Maghrib 3 raka’ats

  5. Isyak 4 raka’ats

I think it’s easier to mark the raka’ats on a piece of paper in case we forget how many raka’ats we had prayed.

When I  perform the solat Tarawih, I pray 20 raka’ats.

That means I pray ten times because each of the prayer has 2 raka’ats.

People usually pray the solat Tarawih 8 raka’ats or 20 raka’ats.

After the solat Tarawih, I first do the solat Witir 2 raka’ats.

After that I solat Witir 1 raka’at.

The total raka’ats in solat Tarawih is in even numbers but the raka’ats of solat Witir must be in odd numbers.

The Bedil

This morning at 5:25 am, I watched the bedil at my

nenek’s house in Kuala Terengganu. The bedil sound is

boooooommmm and after  the fire works came out it

sounds tssssssssssssssss. The fire works was beautiful.

I can hear the bedil 3 times a day. 1st and 2nd for imsak

and 3rd for iftar to break our fast. Bedil is a huge fire

works. It is not dangerous because they use a timer to

fire the bedil. My dad said that long time ago they used a

cannon. Cannon is dangerous.

.

In Kuala Lumpur there is no bedil. We waited for

Maghrib azan on TV to break our fast. Just now I saw a

little house where they keep the bedil to be fired. The

house is on a hill. The hill is named Bukit Pak Apil. Do

you know what is bedil? Have you seen it?
